What Snail Mucin Is, and What It Is For
Snail secretion filtrate is the mucus snails produce, collected and filtered into a cosmetic ingredient. It contains a mix of glycoproteins, glycolic acid in small amounts, hyaluronic-like sugars and other components, and on skin it behaves primarily as a humectant and soothing agent — it draws in water and leaves a slick, comfortable film.
Its best-supported use is hydration and barrier comfort: dehydrated skin, skin stressed by retinoids or acids, and skin that feels tight. What 96% Actually Means
The number on the front of a snail product is the share of the formula that is snail secretion filtrate. The filtrate itself is mostly water. So a 96% essence is not four points stronger than a 92% cream in any meaningful sense — it is a formula that is almost entirely filtrate, with little else added.
